Today is World Food Day... and this year’s theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” marks 80 years of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.
It’s a reminder that while the world produces enough food to feed everyone, hunger still affects around one in 11 people globally; that’s up to 757 million people. The problem isn’t supply, it’s access, affordability, and distribution.
World Food Day was first established back in 1979 to raise awareness about hunger and promote healthy, sustainable food systems. It also commemorates the founding of the FAO in 1945.
Today’s focus? Working together to combat the big threats to food security, like climate change, conflict, and rising costs, and to build a fairer, greener future where no one goes hungry.
So, whether it’s reducing food waste, supporting local growers, or donating to food charities... every small action helps move us hand in hand toward a better food future.
