The newly revamped Exchange Hotel in Pinjarra is set to open by spring 2024.
Shire President David Bolt said the iconic venue will open in time to enjoy the change of seasons.
“It has been a joy to witness new life being breathed into the Exchange Hotel since construction began last year. With works progressing, we are very pleased to now officially announce we anticipate the venue will be ready to open by Spring,” President Bolt said.
“We know there is a great deal of excitement for the venue to open. It will have been a long-time coming and we thank the community for their continued patience as construction continues."
Protecting the building’s heritage and charm has been integral to the project.
But, with the building being more than 150 years old, it has presented some unique challenges to construction teams.
Structural challenges required additional work to stabilise the original footings and work with the buildings unique structure.
This along with delays in the supply of some materials, impacted construction timeframes slightly.
The final base construction activities are underway and once complete, the venue will be handed over to operators for their final fit-out.
Hoteliers Karl and Janine Bullers have extensive experience in hospitality, including running and owning the National Hotel and the Old Court House in Fremantle.
Their experience in taking heritage buildings and developing them into food and drink destinations was a key factor in them becoming operators of the Exchange Hotel.
“We are thrilled to be in the final stages of this redevelopment. Opening as the warmer weather arrives will give us a great opportunity to maximise the stunning grounds as part of our celebrations,” Karl Bullers said.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the Murray locals and visitors to enjoy the refreshed venue in the heart of Pinjarra."
