McLennan Park in Madora Bay is home to a new 'pump track', adding another fun element to the popular park for BMX, mountain bike and scooter riders.
The pump track was launched by the City of Mandurah on Friday, and has already proven to be a popular addition among the community, with many young people and families enjoying the track over the school holidays.
The $60,000 project was fully funded by a Local Projects, Local Jobs grant through the State Government‟s Royalties for Regions program, and administered by the Peel Development Commission.
Mayor Rhys Williams said he was happy to see the pump track open and being used by the community, as it provided a healthy activity and meeting place for young people and families.
“Thanks to the State Government for making this possible, the track is a great addition to the well-used park and I can see it will be enjoyed by families for years to come," Mayor Williams said.
"It‟s a great way for young people to have fun outdoors and meet up with their friends.”
The pump track is a continuous loop of round bumps and banked turns designed to be used completely by riders 'pumping', creating a momentum by up and down body movements.
The course was designed and constructed by Three Chillies Trails.
McLennan Park also features a playground, half-court basketball, barbecues, shade shelters, large grassed spaces and the beach across the road.
