The State Government has expanded its Age-Friendly Grants Program to support positive ageing of West Australians with dementia.
This is the first time the initiative has included dementia-friendly projects and is now open for applications.
Grants of up to $15,000 are available for not-for-profit organisations and local governments to provide dementia and age-friendly events, resources and programs within the community.
It aims to provide safe, accessible and engaging places for older people to live while allowing for important social, cultural and economical interactions as they age.
It also provides support for carers and families.
Alzheimer's WA General Manager Danielle Wrench commended the State Government for recognising the need for dementia-friendly initiatives.
"There are over 41,600 Western Australians living with dementia and approximately 70 per cent live at home in our communities," Wrench said.
"Dementia-friendly initiatives are vital to ensure we can continue to support people living with dementia to stay at home as long as possible."
