Construction of the Dawesville Community Centre is nearing completion with the multi-purpose hub set to open its doors later this year.
The new community centre will feature a large communal hall with a stage, flexible office spaces for a range of services, a big kitchen and function area, and recreation areas for young people and families to enjoy.
Mayor Caroline Knight and Member for Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday toured the site last week, noting recently completed works including installation of flooring and cabinetry, internal painting and plumbing, and external cladding.
Construction of the 11-bay car park is also nearing completion, and landscaping works are well underway.
The new community centre is being funded by the State Government ($6.237million) plus a Lotterywest grant ($2.650million), with the City of Mandurah managing the project and future operations of the facility.
Over the past 15 years, Dawesville has experienced significant growth, leading to higher demand for social infrastructure, community facilities and services.
It is projected that the current population will double to 15,000 by 2036.
Mayor Knight said it was great to see the much-needed centre nearing completion.
“The Dawesville Community Centre is a highly anticipated addition to the area and will be well-used and loved given Dawesville’s huge growth in recent times and into the future,” Mayor Knight said.
“Soon, people will be able to access a state-of-the-art community hub, catering to a range of needs, without having to travel into the city centre. This is amazing news for people in our southern suburbs, from young families to older generations, and everyone in between.
“Expressions of interest are now open for community groups and service providers who’d like to make use of our new centre on a regular basis, and we’re excited to go through the process of which services and activities will be based at the centre.
“Thanks to the State Government, Lotterywest, our local Members of Parliament and everyone involved in the project for helping the City to enable vital community connections through this new centre.”
