The 'All Abilities Paddle Launch' has officially opened at Riverside Gardens in Greenfields.
The facility is one of the first of its kind in Western Australia.
The new accessible platform features two custom slipways and special seating to facilitate safe river access for all-abilities paddlers and ensure a seamless transition from wheelchairs to canoes.
New upgrades have also been completed at key paddle launch sites at the Novara Foreshore in Dawesville including new sand, tables, seating, stairs, handrails, benches, shelters and beach matting.
This series of upgrades is part of the City of Mandurah's 'Peel-Harvey Estuary Trails' project and includes a $1.2 million investment from the State Government.
From the investment, $400,000 was allocated to the upgrade of the paddle network, while the remaining $800,000 is set to be used for the development of a 30km Island shared-use trail and enhancements to the Thrombolites.
Mandurah MLA David Templeman said the upgraded paddle trail network enhances the region's appeal as a top destination for water-based activities.
“The project creates accessible and adventurous experiences that attract more visitors and encourage longer stays, as well as helping to boost tourism and spending in the Peel," Mr Templeman said.
“The new ‘All Abilities Paddle Launch’ sets a high bar for recreational infrastructure, ensuring wide accessibility and showcasing the area’s natural beauty and rich biodiversity.”
